IV.2.1. Economy, Finance and Taxation

The Council of Ministers has approved the law proposal which reinforces the protection of bank deposits in the event of bankruptcy, ensuring in the new hierarchy of creditors a highest graduation to the generality of deposits compared to other financial instruments, such as bonds, ensuring a lower risk for depositors, thereby transposing the Directive (EU) 2017/2399 on the position of unsecured debt instruments in the insolvency hierarchy, which has particular importance for the minimum capital requirements by credit institutions. With this measure, the Government concludes an important step towards protecting bank deposits and introducing greater clarity and legal certainty in the resolution regime.

By the Council of Ministers also was approved the signing of the contract between the Government, the Lisbon City Council and Connected Intelligence Limited, for the organization of the international event Web Summit in Portugal in the period from 2019 to 2028. The approved resolution also authorizes the realization of expenditure resulting from financial commitments entered into by the Portuguese State up to an amount of 80 million euros (€ 80.000.000,00), spread over ten years.
